As one-third of the Bronx culinary collective Ghetto Gastro, Pierre Serrao naturally spends his Sundays in the kitchen. “They stayed open when everybody else was closed,” Mr. Serrao said. Ghetto Gastro raised money and secured supplies, like sneakers, for the workers. “Their sneakers were all the way worn out from running up like 30 flights of stairs every day to bring people food,” he said. Recently, Mr. Serrao has been focused on promoting Ghetto Gastro’s first cookbook, “Ghetto Gastro Presents Black Power Kitchen,” which was released last fall, and the collective’s newest line of affordable cookware for Target.
